Week: Saturday 1st June 2024 – Friday 7th June 2024.

Three new year additions to the 2024 Anglesey list – including a potential first for the island.  Belated news emerged of 2 Smew – a drake and a duck photographed at Llyn Alaw on the 11th March – No 203.  A lucky homeowner in Llanfairynghornwy had a Hawfinch feeding on the grass below garden feeders mid-afternoon (5th), but alas it didn’t hang about to be seen by others later in the day – No 204.  Finally, a 2nd calendar year Caspian Gull was photographed on the Bangor foreshore before moving over to the Cadnant estuary (7th) and will become the 1st for Anglesey if accepted by the Welsh Birds Rarity Committee – No 205.

Rose-coloured Starlings were seen in Cumbria and Aberystwyth during the week and must be a potential for Anglesey during the coming few weeks as flocks of Common Starlings build up.
