After referencing a report of a Purple Heron over Cors Ddyga in last week’s summary, one was later that evening (19th) photographed at Aberffraw Common. The bird would stay to the 25th at least, although it could be very elusive. The southern feeling was added to when birders travelling to search for the Purple Heron found a European Bee-eater near Bethel during the evening (24th) – alas, it wasn’t there the next day. Perhaps more expected were 5 other year ticks in the form of a Garden Warbler at Wylfa woods (20th), Whinchats at Cors Ddyga & Cors Erddreiniog (20th), a Cuckoo between Hen Borth and Llanfairynghornwy (21st), a Common Tern at Cemlyn (21st) and Common Swifts over Cors Ddyga (22nd). These 6 new additions to the year list took the running total up to 186.
