Herons and Egrets provided 3 new additions to the year list - Glossy Ibis, Cattle Egret and Great Bittern – taking the running total for the year up to 144.  Storms Isha and Jocelyn failed to deliver anything spectacular, but several sightings of Little Gull were nonetheless welcomed.

 

Swans, Geese & Ducks:

Whooper Swan

·       8 at Cors Ddyga (26th).

Pink-footed Goose

·       36, east of Llyn Coron (22nd).

·       c. 120 headed south over Amlwch, 80 flew over Gadfa and landed on nearby fields, then 100+ flew south over Traeth Dulas (24th).

·       162 on fields south of Cors Ddyga and east of the cycle track (26th).

Greenland White-fronted Goose

·       18 on fields south of Cors Ddyga and east of the cycle track (26th).

Pale-bellied Brent Geese

·       114 at the Alaw estuary (24th).

Long-tailed Duck

·       Up to 2 off Benllech seafront (2 on 24th, drake on 22nd).

Eider

·       Up to 6 off Benllech seafront (6 on 24th, 3 on 22nd).

Common Scoter

·       50+ off Benllech seafront (22nd).

Pintail

·       31 at the Alaw estuary (24th).

Shelduck

·       42 at Traeth Dulas (22nd).

Waders:

Purple Sandpiper

·       9 at Cemlyn (24th).

Knot

·       63 at Beddmanarch Bay (20th).

·       48 at the Alaw estuary (24th).

Dunlin

·       816 at the Alaw estuary (24th).

Greenshank

·       Up to 4 at Traeth Dulas (4 on 24th, 2 on 22nd).

·       1 at Cemlyn (24th).

·       1 at the Alaw estuary (24th).

Redshank

·       64 at the Alaw estuary (24th).

Grey Plover

·       72 at Beddmanarch Bay (20th).

·       1 at Cemlyn (24th).

·       61 at the Alaw estuary (24th).

European Golden Plover

·       Up to 400 at Cemlyn (c. 400 on 22nd, 200+ on 24th).

Lapwing

·       35 at the Alaw estuary (24th).

·       2 at Cors Ddyga (26th).

·       2 with Golden Plover and Lapwing on fields at Bodorgan (26th).

Bar-tailed Godwit

·       2 at Beddmanarch Bay (20th).

·       72 at the Alaw estuary (24th).

·       2 at the Gorad flood, Valley (22nd).

·       118 at the Alaw estuary (24th).

·       53 at the Alaw estuary (24th).

·       Adult winter plumaged bird at Traeth Dulas (22nd).

·       1st calendar year bird flew past Benllech seafront (24th).

·       2, 1st calendar year bird flew past Cemlyn (24th).

·       1st calendar year bird at Henborth (25th).

Mediterranean Gull

·       1 at Cemaes Bay (22nd).

·       3 on a field at Henborth (25th).

Lesser Black-backed Gull

·       1 at Red Wharf Bay (20th).

·       Up to 13 at Holyhead Harbour (13 on 24th, 3 on 26th, 1 on 20th, 22nd).

·       3 at Holyhead fish quay (26th).

Divers & Grebes:

Black-throated Diver

·        1 at Borth Wen, Rhoscolyn (26th).

Great Northern Diver

·        1 off Moel-y-Don (21st).

·        Up to 2 at Holyhead Harbour (2 on 24th & 26th, 1 on 20th & 22nd).

·        1 in the bay at Cemlyn (24th-25th).

·        1 at Borth wen, Rhoscolyn (26th).

·        1 at the Inland Sea (26th).

Red-throated Diver

·        1 off Benllech seafront (22nd, 24th).

·        2 in the bay at Cemlyn (24th-25th).

Slavonian Grebe

·        3 at Beddmanarch Bay (22nd).

·        3 on the Inland Sea (24th).

·       1 at Pentraeth (25th).

Black Redstart

·       1 at Holyhead fish quay behind Minesto (24th & 26th).

Cetti’s Warbler

·       1 calling at Cors Ddyga (24th).

·       1 at Holyhead fish quay (26th).

Hen Harrier

·        Male at Cors Ddyga (24th).

Marsh Harrier

·        1 at Cors Ddyga (26th).

·        Juvenile type at Cemlyn (26th).

Red Kite

·        1 at Presaddfed (24th).

·        1 over the A55 just south of the Bryngwran junction (24th).

·        1 at Silver Bay, Rhoscolyn (26th).

·        1 over Cors Ddyga (26th).

Merlin

·        1 at Cemlyn (24th).

·        1 at Beddmanarch Bay and then presumably the same at the Inland Sea (26th).

·        1 flew in the roost at Cors Ddyga (22nd-23rd).

·        1 at Cors Ddyga (24th, 26th),

·        2 calling at Cors Ddyga (24th).
