A quiet week – which might have been expected given the time of year, but at the same time a few bits and pieces to keep the interest going.

 

Swans, Geese & Ducks:

Mute Swan

·       24 on the east basin of Cefni reservoir (13th).

Gadwall

·       c. 40 on the east basin of Cefni reservoir (13th).

Eurasian Teal

·       3 at Cors Ddyga (9th).

Common Scoter

·       11 flew past The Range (10th).

·       28 off Benllech (13th).

Eider

·       Adult, with 3 chicks off Traeth Bychan (11th).

Waders:

Grey Plover

·       2 at Red Wharf Bay (12th).

Common Ringed Plover

·       21 at the Alaw estuary (11th).

Sanderling

·       A number among a mixed flock of Dunlin and Ringed Plover at Cemlyn (10th).

·       Several among a mixed flock – 11 – of Sanderling and Dunlin at Rhoscolyn (11th).

Dunlin

·       44 at the Alaw estuary (11th).

Whimbrel

·       5 flew past The Range (10th).

Bar-tailed Godwit

·       7 at Red Wharf Bay (12th).

Black-tailed Godwit

·       5 at Red-Wharf Bay (8th).

·       1 at Cemlyn (10th).

Oystercatcher

·       174 at the Alaw estuary (11th).

Seabirds & gulls:

Arctic Skua

·       Dark morph off Traeth Bychan (11th).

Common Gull

·       2nd calendar year at the Alaw estuary (11th).

Mediterranean Gull

·       1 at Cemlyn (10th).

·       1 at Red Wharf Bay (12th).

Black Guillemot

·       1 at Point Lynas (8th).

·       1+ off Traeth Bychan (11th).

·       2 off Benllech (13th).

Divers & Grebes:

No sightings of note

 

Passerines & others:

Yellow Wagtail

·       1 over Tyn Llan, Cemlyn then at Hen Borth – photographed (12th).

Northern Wheatear

·       1 at Point Lynas (8th).

·       1 at the Alaw estuary (11th).

·       1 at Holyhead Breakwater Country Park (11th).

Lesser Whitethroat

·       1 at Llyn Trafwll (8th).

Grasshopper Warbler

·       1 singing at Llyn Cefni (13th).

Swift

·       c. 30 over the east basin of Cefni reservoir (13th).

Hooded Crow

·       1 at Red Wharf Bay (12th).

Raptors:

Marsh Harrier

·       Female at Llyn Trafwll (8th).

·       Up to 3+ at Cors Ddyga (3+ on 9th, 2 on 11th).

Red Kite

·       1 over the Alaw estuary (8th).

·       1 over A5025 north of Pentraeth (11th).

·       1 over Gadfa (12th).

Herons, Egrets & allies:

Great Bittern

·        1 still booming at Cors Ddyga (9th & 11th).
