Week: Saturday 23rd March 2024 – Friday 29th March 2024.

The last full week of March produced the first Manx Shearwater for the year with 3 birds seen off North Stack (22nd), the first Willow Warblers with birds at Cors Ddyga and Rhoscolyn (26th) and an Osprey photographed over Cors Ddyga (26th).  Collectively, they take the cumulative year list to date up to 162. 

Up to 2 Snow Buntings were around the Trwyn, Cemlyn (23rd-29th) while 9 Marsh Harriers noted at Cors Ddyga (28th) must be the highest count for a single site on the island.

Whooper Swan

·       14 on roadside fields off B5111 from Llangefni to Llanerchymedd (25th).

Pale-bellied Brent Goose

·       34 off Benllech seafront (23rd).

·       28 at Porth y Mor (23rd).

·       c. 150 at Beddmanarch Bay (24th).

·       Up to 161 at the Alaw estuary (161 on 24th, 158 on 25th).

Dark-bellied Brent Goose

·       1 at the Alaw estuary (25th).

Goldeneye

·       2 at the Inland Sea (24th).

Common Scoter

·       20 off Benllech seafront (23rd).

Waders:

·       9 at Cemlyn (24th).

Golden Plover

·       c. 300 at Cemlyn (23rd-24th).

Grey Plover

·       3 at Cemlyn (24th).

Jack Snipe

·       1 at Traeth Dulas (23rd)

·       8 at Traeth Dulas (23rd).

Greenshank

·       1 on the old brickworks pool, Traeth Dulas (23rd).

Black-tailed Godwit

·       2 summer plumaged birds at Tyn Llan fields, Cemlyn (27th).

·       40 off North Stack, Holyhead, over a 1hr seawatch (23rd).

·       2 off Benllech seafront (23rd).

·       3 at Porth y Mor (23rd).

Mediterranean Gull

·       Up to 5 at Cemlyn (5 on 29th, 4 on 24th).

·       6 on fields, following muck spreading, near Llyn Trafwll (28th).

Kittiwake

·       35 off North Stack, Holyhead, over a 1hr seawatch (23rd).

Sandwich Tern

·       4 off Beaumaris (24th).

·       4 off Moel-y-Don (24th).

Black Guillemot

·       5 at Porth y Mor (23rd).

·       2 at Beddmanarch Bay (28th).

·        1 at Holyhead harbour (28th).

·        1 reported at Holyhead harbour (24th).

·        1 off Benllech seafront (23rd).

·        4 at Porth y Mor (23rd).

Black-necked Grebe

·        1, in summer plumage, at Beddmanarch Bay (24th, 28th).

Slavonian Grebe

·        Up to 6 at Beddmanarch Bay (6 on 26th, 3 on 24th, 2 of 28th).

Passerines & others:

Willow Warbler

·       1 at Cors Ddyga (26th).

·       1 at Llafur, Rhoscolyn (26th & 29th).

Snow Bunting

·       1 on the Trwyn, Cemlyn (23rd-27th), with a 2nd bird present (27th-29th).

Water Pipit

·       1, in partial summer plumage, at Cors Ddyga (28th).

Black Redstart

·       Female still around the Amlwch Port area (23rd-24th).

Yellowhammer

·       3 at Brynteg (23rd).

Barn Swallow

·       1 over the approach road to Point Lynas (25th).

·       1 at Cors Ddyga (26th).

·       3 at Cemlyn (26th).

·       1 at Tregele (27th).

·       1 at Cemaes Bay (27th).

·       1 at Cemlyn (29th).

Pied Wagtail – yarrellii sub-species

·       40 passed through Cemlyn (26th).

·       1 at Soldier’s Point, Holyhead (24th).

·       2 singing at Talwrn (25th).

·       1 at Rhoscolyn (26th).
