Week: Saturday 20th June - Friday 26th June 2026.

A week of blistering heat, but it nonetheless offered up four records of singing Quail.  Up to 4 Roseate Terns were a Cemlyn, while there were further signs of a return passage of waders including a Green Sandpiper, 3 Ruff and 10 Redshank - the latter very scarce on Anglesey through mid May - mid June.
There were no new additions to the cumulative year list which remains at 199 (LISTS) - subject to the appropriate records being accepted by the British and Welsh Birds Rarity Committees as applicable.  


Wildfowl:

Garganey

1, drake at Cors Ddyga (20th).

Teal

4, at the Alaw estuary (26th).

Waders:

Curlew

8, at Traeth Dulas (24th).

23, at the Alaw estuary (25th).

Black-tailed Godwit

1, at Valley tidal doors (20th).

Common Sandpiper

Up to 2, at the Alaw estuary (2 on 26th, 1 on 20th).

Green Sandpiper

1, flew north over Cors Ddyga (23rd).

Redshank

1, at Valley tidal doors (20th).

9, at the Alaw estuary (26th).

Greenshank

1, at Alaw estuary (26th).

Ruff

1, at Cemlyn (22nd).

Up to 2, males at Cors Ddyga (2 on 24th, 1 on 23rd).

Seabirds and gulls:

Roseate Tern

Up to 4, at Cemlyn (4 on 24th, 2 on 21st-23rd, 1 on 26th).

Grebes & Divers:

Nothing of note. 

Herons, Egrets & allies:

Quail

1, reported as singing near Brynteg (21st).

1, heard singing to the South East of Mynydd Bodafon (21st, 23rd-24th).

1, heard singing from fields near Llyn Llygeirian (22nd).

1, heard singing at Llandegfan (25th).

Spoonbill

1, at Cors Ddyga (21st).

Little Egret

12, at Traeth Dulas (24th).

Raptors:

Osprey

1, fishing at the Inland Sea before moving off to the North (21st).

Hobby

1, from A55 near the junction for Llangefni (23rd).

Passerines & others:

Grasshopper Warbler

1, at Llyn Llygeirian (22nd).

1, at Cors Bodeilio (24th-25th).

Lesser Whitethroat

1, at Valley tidal doors (20th).

1, at Gadfa (20th-26th).

1, at Rhoscolyn (20th-24th).

1, on approach to Cwm reservoir, Holyhead (23rd).

Crossbill

2, at Carmel Head (20th).
