The October 2025 issue of British Birds includes a report on rare birds in Great Britain in 2024. From an Anglesey perspective, this saw confirmation of acceptance of the records of Pallid Harrier, Eurasian Scops Owl and Red-eyed Vireo from 2024, together with the Red-throated Pipit from 2023.
This week saw two different White-rumped Sandpipers (1 carried over from last week), both of which were photographed. There were no new additions to the cumulative year list which remains at 227 (LISTS), subject to acceptance of records to be considered by the appropriate rarity committee.
What can and can’t be counted on a County list can be an emotive issue, but I have had a stab at what many birders would look to include as part of their year list - even if the views of the likes of the WOS might differ in respect of a handful of species.
