A big influx of Pink-footed Geese, Greenland White-fronted Geese give themselves up at a more accessible location and Greater Scaup are reported at 3 different sites.

5 new additions are made to the 2024 year list taking the running total to 140.  The 5 new additions are; Spotted Redshank (1st – belated), Sandwich Tern (6th), Black-necked Grebe (6th), Green Sandpiper (7th) and Hooded Crow (10th).

 

Swans, Geese & Ducks:

Whooper Swan

·       Up to 19 at Rhosgoch (19 on 8th).

·       1 at Cors Ddyga (8th).

·       6 at Llyn Llygeirian (9th).

Greenland White-fronted Goose

·       4 on fields north of Cors Ddyga (4 on 6th).

·       Up to 19 on fields viewed from the cycle track south of Cors Ddyga – 1 with white neck collar (19 on 8th, 14 on 10th, 2 on 11th, 7 on 12th).

Pink-footed Goose

·       c.200 flew over Llanerchymedd and headed towards the east end of Llyn Alaw (7th).

·       6 flew over Cemlyn (7th).

·       Up to 62 at Llyn Llywenan (62 on 10th, 2 on 8th).

·       2 at Red Wharf Bay (9th).

·       Up to 20 on fields viewed from the cycle track south of Cors Ddyga (20 on 10th, 4 on 12th).

Barnacle Goose

·       2 at Llyn Coron (11th).

Pale-bellied Brent Geese

·       5 on the beach at Traeth Bychan (11th).

Greater Scaup

·       Female at Cors Ddyga (6th, 8th & 12th).

·       1st winter male at Llyn Cefni on west basin (6th).

·       Drake at Beddmanarch Bay, viewed from the gorad side (8th).

Long-tailed Duck

·       Drake off Benllech seafront (12th).

·       Duck at Llyn Maelog (7th, 12th).

Eider

·       4 off Penmon / Lleiniog (6th).

·       4 off Gallows Point, Beaumaris (6th).

·       1 off Benllech seafront (12th).

Common Scoter

·       20 off Traeth Bychan (11th).

·       Female on the Inland Sea (11th).

Pintail

·       c. 15 at Cors Ddyga (7th).

Wigeon

·       c. 350 at Llyn Cefni (7th).

Shoveler

·       c. 400 at Llyn Cefni (7th).

Goldeneye

·       c. 30 at Llyn Cefni (7th).

·       8 at Llyn Maelog (7th).

Gadwall

·       c. 50 at Llyn Cefni (7th).

Teal

·       c. 250 at Llyn Cefni (7th).

Pochard

·       c. 25 at Llyn Cefni (7th).

Tufted Duck

·       c. 150 at Llyn Cefni (7th).

Waders:

Spotted Redshank

·       1 at Four-mile bridge (1st).

Green Sandpiper

·       2 at the east basin of Llyn Cefni (7th).

Greenshank

·       3 at Red Wharf Bay (9th).

·       1 on the old brickworks pool, Traeth Dulas (12th).

Jack Snipe

·       2 at Traeth Dulas (8th).

·       1 at Cemlyn (9th).

·       1 at Malltraeth cob (11th).

Woodcock

·       3 near the Afon Cefni, Bodffordd (7th).

·       c. 10 at Newborough Forest (11th).

European Golden Plover

·       c. 300 between Hen Borth and Llanfairynghornwy (7th).

Ruff

·       2 at Cors Ddyga (12th).

Black-tailed Godwit

·       46 on the gorad flood, Valley (10th).

Seabirds & gulls:

Sandwich Tern

·       Winter plumaged bird at Penmon / Lleiniog (6th).

·       Winter plumaged bird seen at The Swellies – area between 2 bridges across the Menai Strait (6th).

·       Tern sp – most likely Sandwich seen from passing car at Beddmanarch Bay (6th).

Mediterranean Gull

·       1 at the Alaw estuary (9th).

·       adult at Beddmanarch Bay, off Penrhos Coastal Park car park (10th - 12th).

·       3 adults feeding off the headland at Soldier’s Point, Holyhead (12th).
