Friday 10 November 2023

Week: Saturday 4th November 2023– Friday 10th November 2023.

Bird of the week for many would have been a Glossy Ibis seen at the Gorad flood, Valley – having initially been seen flying over Beddmanarch Bay and relocating temporarily to a flooded field between the A55 and Valley crossroads.  It is not the first time that this flooded field has pulled in a Glossy Ibis with one having been present on the 7th November 2019.  Egyptian Goose, albeit a little tainted for some due to their origin from either the UK’s feral population or an escape from a collection, is arguably rarer in terms of sightings on the island and had at least a few people out looking for it.  Throw in some summer plumaged Great Northern Divers at Cemlyn, a scattering of Snow Buntings, a late Ring Ouzel, 2 late Arctic Skuas and all in all it was not too bad of a week.
