Week: Saturday 2nd November 2024 – Friday 8th November 2024.

Just how many Yellow-browed Warblers have there been this year?  The running total of daily maximum sightings between the 26th September and the 8th November now stands at 63, with Holyhead (South Stack to Soldier’s Point) accounting for 51, Cemlyn (Carmel Head to Wylfa woods) for 10 and elsewhere just the 2.  While there is bound to have been some duplication in that birds will have been counted as part of different daily totals, equally some birds must have moved through relatively quickly only to be replaced by others.  The first at Wylfa woods was on the 3rd October, the most recent on the 2nd November – while not impossible, it seems unlikely that the one bird had stayed for a month – indeed the were comments from those who saw a bird on more than one occasion that later sightings involved a paler, less brightly coloured individual.  And what has passed through the rest of the island which is largely under-watched?
