Friday, 24 May 2024

Week: Saturday 18th May 2024 – Friday 24th May 2024.

The only new addition to the 2024 year list was a calling Quail that was heard from Rhosneigr golf course (20th).  It takes the running total up to 201.

A Little Tern, a Little Gull, 6 Arctic Skua, 3 Great Northern Diver, 8 Red-throated Diver and a good passage of commoner seabirds were just rewards for those who put the hours in despite what were poor conditions at times.  It has proved a good spring for Curlew Sandpiper and Malltraeth produced a further 3 to add to those already seen at the likes of Cemlyn and the Alaw estuary.  Common Starling have become more obvious as this years’ broods fledge.  These sightings are pleasant in themselves, but they also serve as a reminder that late May and particularly early June can be a good time for finding a Rose-coloured Starling.  If you find one, please try to get a photo (anything better than nothing) to support the sighting.
