Week: Saturday 15th April - Friday 21st April 2023

A week which delivered good numbers of Northern Wheatear and Whimbrel, together with 6 new species for the Anglesey year list - Grey Partridge (16th), Wood Sandpiper (17th), Yellow Wagtail (17th), Common Whitethroat (18th), Common Redstart (19th) and Common Tern (20th).  This takes the list up to 184 – still slightly ahead of last year’s equivalent which was 181 on the 22nd April.  The most disappointing absence from this year’s list is that there still hasn’t been any reports of Tree Sparrow.  The Gwalchmai and Bryngwran areas have been the most reliable sites over recent years for spring records at feeding stations – it would be good to know if they are still present somewhere, even if they aren’t viewable by the birding community.
