A quiet week for scarce birds, but still plenty to see.

 

Swans, Geese & Ducks:

·   Summering drake at the Alaw estuary (8th).

Goosander

·     2 females near Beaumaris pier (11th).

Waders:

Avocet

·      1 at Cemlyn (8th).

Little Ringed Plover

·     2 at the Llanfachraeth end of the Alaw estuary (8th).

Common Sandpiper

·     Up to 11 at the Alaw estuary (11 on 13th, 6 on 8th).

·        1 at Valley cob (10th)

·      1 at Church Island, Menai Bridge (11th).

·        1 at Llyn Maelog (11th).

·        3 at the Rhoscolyn end of the Cymyran strait (12th).

Dunlin

·        5 at the Alaw estuary (13th).

Greenshank

·      6 at the Llanfachraeth end of the Alaw estuary (8th &13th).

·    2 on the Afon Braint near stepping stones (8th).

·      1 at Church Island, Menai Bridge (11th).

Redshank

·       17 at the Llanfachraeth end of the Alaw estuary (17th on 8th, 1 on 13th).

·        1 at Cemlyn (9th).

·        4 at Malltraeth (11th).

Black-tailed Godwit

·        11 at Malltraeth (11th).

·        1 at Traeth Dulas (12th).

·        2 at Valley cob (13th).

·   1 on the mitigation pool, Inland Sea (13th).

Whimbrel

·        1 at Traeth Dulas (10th).

·        1 at the Alaw estuary (13th).

Lapwing

·        8 at Llyn Coron (11th).

Oystercatcher

·    236 at the Llanfachraeth end of the Alaw estuary (236 on 8th, 219 on 13th).

Curlew

·    214 at the Llanfachraeth end of the Alaw estuary (214 on 8th, 59 on 13th).

·        138 on rocks off Rhosneigr (11th).

·        148 at Malltraeth (11th).

Seabirds & gulls:

European Storm Petrel

·        2-3 seen off The Range (11th).

Roseate Tern

·        1 on the beach at Cemlyn (10th).

Sandwich Tern

·   220+ at Traeth Dulas was a notable count (12th).

Mediterranean Gull

·        2 at Porth-y-Mor, near Lligwy (9th).

·        15 at the Alaw estuary (13th).

Common Gull

·    First 2 returning birds at the Alaw estuary (8th).

Black Guillemot

·        1 at Point Lynas (8th).

·       Up to 4 off Puffin Island (4 on 13th, 1 on 11th).

Puffin

·        1 at Point Lynas (8th).

·        7+ off Puffin Island (11th).

·        1 past The Range (12th).

Marsh Harrier

·     Up to 2 at Cors Ddyga (2 on 8th, 1 on 11th).

Red Kite

·  1 at Tyddyn Isaf, near Bryn Refail (8th&9th)

·        1, 1 km NE of Llangefni (9th).

Herons, Egrets & allies:

Great Egret

·          1 at Cors Ddyga (8th, 13th).

·          1 at Valley cob (13th).

Little Egret

·          13 at the Alaw estuary (8th).

·          9 at Traeth Dulas (13th).

The return wader passage continues to build up and early sea-watching is rewarded with a European Storm Petrel.

·   2 adults & 3-4 chicks still at Cemlyn (3rd&4th).

Common Sandpiper

·        Up to 6 at the Alaw estuary (6 on 3rd, 4 on 4th).

·        2 at Traeth Dulas (3rd).

Greenshank

·        5 at the Alaw estuary (3rd, 4th).

·        1 at Cemlyn (4th).

·        2 at Traeth Dulas (5th).

Redshank

·        Up to 7 at the Alaw estuary (7 on 4th, 4 on 3rd).

·        2 at Traeth Dulas (3rd).

·        1 at Cemlyn (4th).

Bar-tailed Godwit

·        1 at the Alaw estuary (3rd).

Black-tailed Godwit

·        7 at Traeth Dulas (3rd)

Oystercatcher

·        157 at the Alaw estuary (3rd).

Curlew

·        44 at Traeth Dulas (3rd).

·        c. 40 at the Inland Sea (3rd).

·        43 at the Alaw estuary (3rd).

·  20 past The Range during a 1hr seawatch (1st).

·  12 past The Range during a 1hr seawatch (1st).

·  33 past The Range during a 2hr seawatch (5th).

·        Adult with juvenile at Llangefni (6th)

Lesser Whitethroat

·        1 at Valley (3rd)

Common Crossbill

·        2 flew over Cemaes Bay (5th).

Common Swift

·        2 over the Town Hall, Llangefni (6th)

Raptors:

 

White-tailed Eagle

·    Immature from the Isle of Wight re-introduction project seen at Cemlyn (1st) & Llyn Llywenan (1st).

Osprey

·    1 over Cors Ddyga that then headed off in the direction of Malltraeth (1st).

Marsh Harrier

·   Male and female seen at Valley wetlands RSPB (4th).

Red Kite

·        Several around cut hay field at Valley (1st).

Little Egret

·         9 at Cemlyn (4th).
