A slight improvement in respect of sightings of seabirds, but it continues to be quiet for passerines.  The 1st returning Brent Geese of the autumn are noted, while waders probably still provide the most reliable focus of interest. 

Swans, Geese & Ducks:

Pale-bellied Brent Goose

·        Up to 2 at Beddmanarch Bay (2 on 28th, 1 on 29th).

·        1 at the Alaw estuary (29th).

Common Scoter

·        1 seen from North Stack, Holyhead over 3hr seawatch (26th).

Teal

·        Up to 96 at the Alaw estuary (96 on 29th, 32 on 30th).

Wigeon

·        3 at the Alaw estuary (30th).

Waders:

Purple Sandpiper

·       2 on rocky coastline to west of Hen Borth, Cemlyn (24th).

Green Sandpiper

·       1 on a freshwater pool at Parys mountain (24th).

·       1 at the Alaw estuary (24th & 26th).

·       1 at Traeth Dulas (29th).

Common Sandpiper

·       1 at Traeth Dulas (24th, 28th & 29th).

·       1 at the Alaw estuary (24th).

European Golden Plover

·       12 at Cemlyn (28th).

·       1 at Cors Ddyga (28th).

Common Ringed Plover

·       Up to 133 at Traeth Dulas (133 on 29th, 130 on 28th, 57 on 26th, 47 on 24th).

·       Up to 38 at the Alaw estuary (38 on 29th, 12 on 24th).

Oystercatcher

·       128 at Traeth Dulas (24th).

·       Up to 328 at the Alaw estuary (328 on 24th, 254 on 29th).

Seabirds & gulls:

Sabine’s Gull

·       Juvenile reported as flying west at Llanddwyn island, Newborough (25th).

·       Adult flew west close inshore at Point Lynas (26th).

European Storm Petrel

·       1 seen from North Stack, Holyhead over 3hr seawatch (26th).

Arctic Skua

·       1 seen from North Stack, Holyhead over 3hr seawatch (26th).

Manx Shearwater

·       1447 seen from North Stack, Holyhead over 3hr seawatch (26th).

Fulmar

·       11 seen from North Stack, Holyhead over 3hr seawatch (26th).

Gannet

·       104, plus at least 9 large chicks, at Middle Mouse, Llanbadrig (26th).

·       61 seen from North Stack, Holyhead over 3hr seawatch (26th).

Kittiwake

·       280 at Middle Mouse, Llanbadrig (26th).

·       95 seen from North Stack, Holyhead over 3hr seawatch (26th).

Mediterranean Gull

·       Up to 2 at Traeth Dulas (2 on 29th, 1 on 24th).

·       Up to 33 at the Alaw estuary (33 on the 29th, 12 on the 24th, 1 on 30th).

·       1 off Penrhos Coastal Park (30th).

Divers & Grebes:

Little Grebe

·       1 at the Alaw estuary was the first sighting for the autumn (30th).

·       1 heard at Hen Borth withy, Cemlyn (24th & 26th).

Green Woodpecker

·       1 continuing to be seen and heard at Mynydd Bodafon – various dates.

Hooded Crow

·       1 reported at and around Newborough beach car park (24th-25th).

·       Hybrid Hooded x Carrion at Traeth Dulas (29th).

Raptors:

Osprey

·       1 flew over Traeth Dulas (29th).

Goshawk

·       1 flew over Traeth Dulas (29th).

Red Kite

·       1 east of junction 3 of the A55 (28th).

·        1 at the lagoon, Cemlyn (28th).
